food out the dumpster

The two guys is eating food out of the dumpster that local food markets throw away because its not sanitary to have in grocery stores.  A guy looks through the trash and find all of this food. he takes it out the bag and fine some quality food that should not be wasted.  So he takes it home to their families, and they live off of that. the wives were skeptical about the stunt they are pulling, but they adjust to eating dumpster food. The guys are concerned about the amount of food waste. they wanted to report this to the big name commpanies by wrting them letters everyday for a month because they was so concerned about the wasted food. people

Argument #1 Kilbourne

Kilbourne's argument is that society has changed in the role of women.  Women have to look a certain way to be considered attractive. In modern times, men are more concerned about looks rather than the quality of a woman.  In Dr. Jean Kilbourne's lecture, she quoted "If your hair isn't beautiful the rest doesn't matters". Women in modern have to have a high standard in their looks. Women look make advertising a product much easier and more revenue to a company. When people see a pretty women promoting a product it makes men want to buy it for their wives and certain women for themselves. In their mind, they need this product to feel beautiful and divine. This is a strategic method advertisers use to sell and promote their products.

People have no respect for women in the world. People are brainwashed to think that all women need to provide is their looks to be acceptable in society.  No one cares about what the role of a woman provides other than sex appeal. In advertising, women are treated like objects. A woman must be flawless or they will go unnoticed. A quote to back up my argument from "Killing us Softly 4". "Women must work for a lifetime to achieve the flawless look, and feel ashamed when we do not".  (Kilbourne). Advertisers got women effortlessly buying their products to make them achieve the look of the model using their product.

A strategy of achieving a flawless look is to photo shop a woman. To be realistic no woman can achieve the flawless look. The computer guys in the magazine industry photo shop different body parts from other women creating one flawless woman.  The quote from "Killing Us Softly 4" will back up my argument. "So we might be looking at a TV commercial and think we are seeing one woman when really we are seeing four". A woman does not have the perfect body structure unless its been "computer-touched".

Reflection #2

The writing process helped me gather my thoughts more thoroughly than just writing my opinion carelessly. It gives a basic foundation on how to write good papers. I was so used to writing papers without gathering my thoughts completely. I end up getting a mediocre grade on my papers. The writing process helps me gather my thoughts and  go over my mistakes. I learned that no paper is perfect. People should always have somebody look over your papers. Other people can see something in your paper you can not see. Also it is good to have a second opinion, therefore your paper can have a high chance of getting a solid grade.

I learned that I can adjust to different writing methods. I came to Shippensburg not knowing the foundations. I figured that not knowing the foundation behind writing would be my downfall in writing intensive class.  I was wise to pick this course. I learned how to be more confident in my ability to write as well as type papers.  Since I learned the steps of the writing process, I can critique on other people papers.

connected but alone

Dr. Turkle view on technology is technology separate people physically but at the same time it can connect with us emotionally.  In her lecture she talks about how she enjoys using her cellphone to text her daughter.  Although, Dr. Turkle is old fashion, meaning she likes to enjoy her daughter's company physically instead of via text.  She elaborates on how technology usage can be bad for people.  Dr. Turkle emphasizes on how people feel the sense of loneliness even when they use technology to interact with people.  At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how you feel about a person, using technology to explain it will never feel the same as being there physically to vent how you feel.  Dr. Turkle uses her new novel "Alone Together" to showcase her thoughts.  I agree with Dr. Turkle on how people feel lonely through technology.  My feelings are meaningless through the phone if I can not be there to showcase it.  People can say "I miss you" through the phone but do not want to pay you a visit.

"We remove ourselves from our grief and our revery and we go into our phones"

Dr. Turkle is lecturing on how people turn to technology to vent their feelings when dealing with real life situations. People do not vent to other people face to face like they used to.  People vent through text and social media websites and other applications.  People are so used to having short conversations because they are eager to go look on their phone.  People use the internet to log onto facebook to post their feelings rather than informing people that are of existence beyond the use of technology.  Technology has changed how people act towards each other.

Conversations are not what they use to be before cell phones were invented.  People would hang at each other houses and play together. Technology has everybody lazy. In modern times, if you see a group of people they are all on their phones either texting or on any social media application that is popular worldwide.  People will get a kick out of feeling good through technology but in real life they are hurting emotionally.  People are not showcasing their feelings just because they feel as though people will not listen to them.

"We are tempted by machines that offer companionship"

Many people admire technology. Technology would be the first priority on alot of people list to have. People around the world care less if they have friends. As long as technology treat them good they are satisfied. I ask many people this question if you house caught on fire what 2 things would you save from burning? Many people said said cellphones first and their ipad or ipod second.

Technology changed how people feel about each other. People do not care about each other. People can text other people nice things but when will they see them to act on those feelings. Technology can control what's being said in the conversation.  You can delete what you said in the cellphone. But in a face to face however you can not. People will remember what you said whether it is bad or good.  People will see technology as a friend because you can control technology. People can not control what is being said about them.

"People want to be with each but be elsewhere"

People do enjoy each other company.  But when they are around each other they are on their phones in their own little world.  If people are not on their cell phones along with other people you will not get a conversation. People lost sight in dealing with real life. People became antisocial becasue of technology. People rather talk to you on the phone rather then talk face to face.

When it's time to talk to people beyond your personal cellphone, people tend to be shy.  People stop talking face to face, therefore they lost the basics of how to hold a conversation.   People act like they want to be at a certain place but be all up on their cellphones like they are somewhere by their self.   Many individuals do not want to admit the truth about how they really feel. Therefore they use technology to lie for them.

ecology in the mind

I can live without my cell phone for a week. Before I recieved my iphone, I went about 17 years without a cell phone. I can do a week. I can find something esle better to do with my spare time.  I am not the type to be all about my phone like everybody else. sadly my parents want me to take care of my phone like its my life.

The dumbest generation

"The ignorance is hard to believe ... It isn't enough to say that these young people are uninterested in world realities. They are actively cut off from them. ... They are encased in more immediate realities that shut out conditions beyond -- friends, work, clothes, cars, pop music, sitcoms, Facebook.''

The quote is a true statement from a majority standpoint about the youth of today. Politics and other world realities do not interest us. Therefore, we will never have a say in any political decision. The world today is all about fashion, trends on social media, and reality television. As a unit we are loosing sight on what is going on around the United States let alone across the world because many kids can not put their cell phone down.  Also many kids care about fitting in by knowing all the trends, getting all the fashion gear that education becomes irrelevant. Personally, you can not put the whole blame on the children for not knowing what goes on around besides their social life. The way society is run today, social life is the one distraction that can make or break a person. Many people get caught up in the social life.  Majority of the caught up individuals are the kids. American Society is okay with that. The officials of the United States want the kids not to pay an attention to their decision making or their actions. By doing so, they have reality shows and celebrity endorsements all over television so people would pay more attetntion to celebrities than they do the world around them.

"The problem is that instead of using the Web to learn about the wide world, young people instead mostly use it to gossip about each other and follow pop culture, relentlessly keeping up with the ever-shifting lingua franca of being cool in school".

Young people have no desire to learn something on a cerebral content. It is sad to say that many people lost a lot of faith in the future generation. The quote is very factual. Everyone wants to fit in and be the popular kid in school instead of expressing their individuality.  People want to be a clone to another individual. The generation before us would not expect the future generation to take advantage of how they pave the way for us to live by our morals. In the past, the government was resticting the youth freedom by having them work long hours in hazardous working conditions with out health insurance if you can not afford it.  Young people are taking an advantage of the little leeway the goverment gives us. Lately, young people go to jail for other people committing suicide for the remarks that was shocased on social websites and apps.

"They supply the stuff of thought, but they also shape the process of thought. And what the Net seems to be doing is chipping away my capacity for concentration and contemplation. My mind now expects to take in information the way the Net distributes it: in a swiftly moving stream of particles. Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski".

The quote explains how a guy feels that the internet is subtracting his IQ points. This guy was familiar with a lot of information when he was taking his time to grasp it.  Ever since he tries to conserve information like a computer, he looses focus. The guy does not take his time grasping information briefly. He compares himself to a guy on a jet ski from being a scuba diver in a sea of words.  Latel, he skims through words as well as other information.

Miss teen America

I did not grasp on how the People in the U.S can not find U.S on the map.  Her answer was a dumb. I have a feeling Mario Lopez and the other judges find that response a head scratcher.  You can infer that she did not pay attention in history class. She brought South Africa into the response. I have a  feeling people was looking at her sideways.

How technology affectrs me

I like technology impact on me.  It get things done faster than doing it manually. I enjoy having my phone with me. I can call and text at any giving time. I be on my phone for about 15 hours. I watch about 3 hours of television  if football is on, when basketball is on ima watch 5 hours of television. I play videogames for 3 hours. I have not read a book on my own since I was a kid. I do not attend poetry nights. I have not went to the art gallery in about 10+ years. I never been on the walk for breast cancer.
