week 6

Week 6

In class, we did a activity involving an author and a publishing company. The contract discussion was the main topic with in the activity.  My part in the activity is to be the agent of the best selling author and give the author the best contract that complies with their interest. This negotiation was bit rough. The interest for the my client and the publishing company's did not coincide with one another.  The negotiation was time consuming. There were points in the list I valued over the others. I figured they will not give me all the request I wanted so I ask for the second highest option just to maximize my total points.  It was tough, the representatives of the publishing companies were looking to give my client a cheap deal with no advance but have high printing. Overall, it took time to negotiate a good deal I end up with having my client with $15000, with $5000 in advance and with 10% royalties. My total points in the in class exercise was 18700. In comparison to the class I was somewhere close to the middle. Overall, I'm glad I end up with a good deal than what they was trying to give my client. The only way I was  going to leave without making a deal, if they did not come up with a better deal in a matter of time.

week 4

week 4

In this negotiation, I was negotiating as the plant manager for Phillips Plant. I had to settle the price I was willing to pay for the 12 different modules. The person representing as the manager of the Crawley Plant that is selling me the modules was pretty reasonable. He work with me on certain request and in return I did the same for him. We both agree to share the cost of repairing of the faulty modules. The managers also had a consensus on the Phillips plant will be responsible to pay for the faulty modules other than the 12 modules that fall below the 95% level. The Crawley plant agreed to pay the expense of the faulty modules of the 12 types. Also, the Crawley plant will handle the matter of 12 types of faulty modules.  I will handle the remaining 40 types of faulty modules. The negotiation was very smooth. It did not take a long time to figure how the responsibilities was going to be split.  We learned how to cooperate and make decisions that benefited both parties.

Introductory Paragraph

My name is Robert Moore and I've recently became a Management major. I was previously a Finance major, Unfortunately, I did not do too well the previous semester and it provoked me to switch majors. Management was my second choice after Finance.  I want to have the intelligence on taxes and investments as well as have the knowledge to run a business. I told myself that if finance do not work out for me I was going to try Management. I made it to my senior year in finance, but my GPA was well under a 2.0, and management I did good in the management classes that I've took in the past, so I am willing to give this major a shot. Also, I've manage to work full time 40 hours a week job and having to work mandatory overtime for Amazon, I was not engaged in class because of the lack of sleep I was getting. It was horrible. I am looking to make a change so I can graduate on time and finally get out of school.  I've enjoyed my time at Shippensburg, but I know it's time for me to go and start my life post graduation.  I am ready for to start my life as an adult on own and find some special people to stick around for the rest of my life.

research essay: Jobs

People go to college to pursue a career in their interest of study.  Sadly many people do not  pursue a job in their field of study. This topic does bring stress and concern to the college graduates. I am a college student, I feel as though what is my purpose to pursue a degree when people are not hiring like they used to?  This is an issue because people should get rewarded for their hard work. The debt people obtain while in their 4 years of study has to be payed off, if not they will start off with a low credit score.

I believe if a person graduated from college with a 3.0 + GPA and receive internships and a good resume for the job, that person should get hired. That person did not go to college to get a degree for nothing.  Now that person feel as though that they wasted their time trying to better their life. Some people come from a background of being less fortunate and really can not afford to go to college. But their parents are willing to pay for them to go just because they want their child to have a brighter future.  College is expensive, it will take a while to get out of debt.

The two guys is eating food out of the dumpster that local food markets throw away because its not sanitary to have in grocery stores.  A guy looks through the trash and find all of this food. he takes it out the bag and fine some quality food that should not be wasted.  So he takes it home to their families, and they live off of that. the wives were skeptical about the stunt they are pulling, but they adjust to eating dumpster food. The guys are concerned about the amount of food waste. they wanted to report this to the big name commpanies by wrting them letters everyday for a month because they was so concerned about the wasted food. people

Argument #1 Kilbourne

Kilbourne's argument is that society has changed in the role of women.  Women have to look a certain way to be considered attractive. In modern times, men are more concerned about looks rather than the quality of a woman.  In Dr. Jean Kilbourne's lecture, she quoted "If your hair isn't beautiful the rest doesn't matters". Women in modern have to have a high standard in their looks. Women look make advertising a product much easier and more revenue to a company. When people see a pretty women promoting a product it makes men want to buy it for their wives and certain women for themselves. In their mind, they need this product to feel beautiful and divine. This is a strategic method advertisers use to sell and promote their products.

People have no respect for women in the world. People are brainwashed to think that all women need to provide is their looks to be acceptable in society.  No one cares about what the role of a woman provides other than sex appeal. In advertising, women are treated like objects. A woman must be flawless or they will go unnoticed. A quote to back up my argument from "Killing us Softly 4". "Women must work for a lifetime to achieve the flawless look, and feel ashamed when we do not".  (Kilbourne). Advertisers got women effortlessly buying their products to make them achieve the look of the model using their product.

A strategy of achieving a flawless look is to photo shop a woman. To be realistic no woman can achieve the flawless look. The computer guys in the magazine industry photo shop different body parts from other women creating one flawless woman.  The quote from "Killing Us Softly 4" will back up my argument. "So we might be looking at a TV commercial and think we are seeing one woman when really we are seeing four". A woman does not have the perfect body structure unless its been "computer-touched".
